Wheel-lift compatibility is vehicle-specific
A wheel-lift tow supports one end of a vehicle. Whether the other wheels may remain on the road depends on the manufacturer’s transport instructions, the drivetrain and the vehicle’s condition. Body style alone does not answer that question.
Give Rick’s the exact year, make, model and drive type. Some models require all wheels off the road. As one manufacturer example, Ford’s F-150 Lightning rescue information specifies transport arrangements that lift all wheels. That is an example for that vehicle, not a universal instruction for every car.
AWD, 4WD, hybrids and electric vehicles
Do not assume shifting into neutral makes a vehicle safe to tow. AWD and 4WD systems can have specific restrictions; electric and hybrid models may also require transport modes or different handling. Follow the exact model’s owner’s manual and let the operator assess the required method.
Tell Rick’s whether the low-voltage battery is discharged, keys are missing or the vehicle cannot enter its normal tow mode. Rick’s does not offer flatbed towing. Confirm any required dollies or other equipment directly; this page does not establish that they are suitable or available for your car.
Sedans, SUVs, pickups and work vans
Vehicle size, weight, load and modifications matter alongside the drivetrain. Report lowered suspension, ground clearance, oversized tires, cargo and wheel damage. A sedan may have restricted towing instructions, while a suitable SUV may be towable with the correct arrangement.
For a loaded van or pickup, provide the vehicle configuration and what it carries. Discuss towing fit before dispatch. A commercial jump-start example does not establish that Rick’s can tow a bus or heavy truck.
Keys, locked wheels and damaged steering
Tell the operator whether the vehicle rolls, steers and has accessible keys. A damaged wheel, steering lock or parking brake can change the handling required. Do not force a shifter, release or steering mechanism using a social-media workaround.
Review restricted-access planning for a garage or alley, and tow preparation for the handoff. If the required transport method is unavailable, choose a provider with the appropriate equipment.
Questions before arranging service
Can every SUV be moved with a wheel lift?
No. The exact drivetrain, manufacturer instructions, weight, condition and equipment determine suitability. Describe the model rather than booking solely by body style.
Does a wheel lift always mean two wheels stay on the road?
The arrangement depends on the vehicle and equipment. Some jobs require additional equipment to lift the remaining wheels. Confirm the actual method with Rick’s before dispatch.
Check your vehicle’s towing requirements
Tell Rick’s your exact pickup location, vehicle and what happened. Confirm equipment fit, access, availability, arrival estimate and the total quote before dispatch.
